Mataverde® Premium Garapa Decking

The ultimate choice in decking

Garapa wood
Mataverde® Premium Garapa is all heartwood and ranges in color from a sun kissed yellow to golden brown which will darken slightly with age. While the soft ribbon-like graining is reminiscent of maple or mahogany, Garapa has a beauty all its own. If left natural Garapa turns soft silver platinum hue very similar to Ipe. While this species shows less color and grain variations than Ipe or Cumaru, there is still a beautiful assortment of exotic boards. Like a hardwood floor inside your home, no two pieces are alike. This rich variation reflects the inherent beauty of this all natural species.

Physical Characteristics of Mataverde® Garapa:
Mataverde® Premium Garapa is a tough, dense wood with a soft looking satiny grain. With a lower density than Ipe or Garapa it is still considerably stronger and heavier than oak.

Mataverde® Garapa exhibits lots of character striping and color variation and will turn a soft silver color if left natural. Like Mataverde® Ipe and Cumaru it is extremely resistant to shrinking, splintering, twisting, cupping and checking. From a durability standpoint, it is extremely hard and comparatively dense and will resist most types of punishment. Mataverde® Garapa has a high decay resistance rating throughout all fibers of the wood. Although not as high as Ipe or Cumaru, its relatively high density and natural oils make it fairly resistant to termite attacks as well.

With a bending strength of 12,900 psi and a hardness of 1,630 lbs (much greater than Oak), the only quality decking products that are stronger are Ipe and Cumaru. Mataverde® Garapa has very good dimensional stability and shows only minor movement after manufacture. Mataverde® Garapa is kiln dried to minimize shrinkage and checking to provide a deck surface that is just right for you.
