“The Eagle” at 86 Fleet Place is a towering 32-floor residential development in Brooklyn, NY. It features luxurious apartments with retail shopping on the first floor. The residences feature some impressive amenities. And the common area amenities are extraordinary. The rooftop terraced deck, complete with landscaping and Ipe hardwood decking is spectacular. The design/build team selected the Mataverde Eurotec Deck System to bring this part of the project to life.
C & C Landscape Contractors Inc. designed and built the spectacular terrace and outdoor lounge area. C & C prides themselves on understanding their customer’s needs and bringing them to life. They have satisfied clients such as condos, co-ops, developers and private owners since 1959. Their expertise with green roof design is well known.
This impressive project features the Eurotec rooftop deck system with Ipe hardwood decking. The rooftop deck design transforms an ordinary concrete roof into an intimate and inviting outdoor living space. Ipe hardwood is a proven, all-natural, highly durable decking material. Because rooftop decks have such a high exposure to UV rays and weather, using a high performance Ipe decking was an easy decision.

The landscape design also incorporates plantings and pavers for a welcoming outdoor recreation area. In a densely populated urban area, this is like an oasis. It allows the residents to connect with nature without leaving the city (or their home).
The construction team installed the Eurotec adjustable deck pedestals over a concrete roof. Then they mounted the Eurotec Aluminum System Profile (fireproof aluminum joists) to complete the framework. Unlike wood joists, the light weight of the aluminum system profile will never burn, rot, warp or twist. The entire deck frame levels easily with the adjustable height deck pedestals.

From there, they installed high density Ipe hardwood decking for the deck surface. They chose the strongest method for deck fastening – stainless steel screws through the face of the Ipe deck boards. This deck fastening method (face screws) is considered the best way to ensure decking performance. This is critical in high exposure, low clearance environments, like roof top decks.
