The recently completed residence in Northern California is now featured on the Swatt Miers website. This project features a number of design elements that showcases the creativity of their design team with the artful blending of materials, tones and textures to create a unique and breathtaking design. The Rashid residence combines such disparate elements as stucco, stone and wood rain screen siding exterior and unifies the design by skillfully mingling the right proportions of these materials beautifully. Denis Mattson General Contractor of San Jose, California was very effective bringing this amazing rain screen design to life with his skillful team of construction professionals.

The design revolved around a home that would utilize green (energy efficient) building practices in every possible way. Building a home that would embrace sustainable building practices while creating a façade from a material palette that would elegantly combine the warmth 100% FSC™ Machiche high-density exotic hardwood siding with stucco and stone became the perfect design solution. These materials beautifully reflected the surrounding natural environment. The sheer fact that air space in between the building envelope and the rain screen siding allows moisture to escape and also creates a passive insulation layer was enthusiastically embraced by the homeowner.

Why this particular wood siding species? It was imperative to the homeowners to use an FSC (hardwood) material. Machiche wood siding offered a great value compared to many other FSC hardwood options. Machiche hardwood rainscreen cladding provided all the advantages of a high-density hardwood and the benefit of having 100% FSC approved material. Why the color? The warm pallet of varying brown color tones and grain variations of Machiche siding beautifully complemented the other cladding materials; stone and stucco. The mix and contrast of textures makes each material appear more visually dynamic. Energy efficiency and green building practices was the main focus. The Climate-Shield Rain Screen system with 100% FSC Certified Machiche hardwood cladding provided the best of both sustainable design options.
